What is kombucha?

Kombucha, also known as “The Tea of Immortality,” is a cultured tea that contains naturally occurring probiotics, enzymes and electrolytes. Its origins are somewhat of a mystery, though most people believe it came from the far east where it has been consumed for around 2000 years. We’re pretty sure if leprechauns rode around on unicorns wearing hydration packs, they would fill them with kombucha.

what makes your kombucha special?

Rainbow Cloud was voted “Best Kombucha in the Northwest” at the Oregon Fermentation Festival. Our extra smooth taste comes from oak barrels, small batch brewing, organic jasmine green tea, and love (our first ingredient—check the label). Most other brands brew their Kombucha in plastic, glass, metal, or ceramic containers, Rainbow Cloud, however, is brewed in oak just like a fine wine. The oak barrels and jasmine green tea impart a smooth “award winning” taste.

what is floating in my bottle?

That’s the good stuff! Those are living probiotic strands and in some instances pulp from fruits and/or herbs.

what is kefir water?

Kefir Water is a delicious sparkling probiotic beverage made with kefir grains. Kefir grains are not actually grains, the name simply refers to the look of the culture. Rainbow Cloud kefir water is caffeine free, dairy free, and gluten free. There is a rumor going around that Bigfoots and Yetis are big fans of it.

do your drinks have CAFFEINE in them?

Rainbow Cloud kefir water is completely caffeine free. Our kombucha, however, contains a little bit of caffeine. A 16oz bottle of our kombucha is similar to a cup of decaf coffee, which is roughly around 10mg. By comparison a regular cup of coffee has about 100mg of caffeine.

should i shake Kombucha or Kefir Water?

No (unless you are going for that New Years Eve overflowing champagne thing). You can gently swirl the bottle around if you would like to mix the sediment.

what about sugar content?

Kombucha needs sugar to grow, thats what the SCOBY feeds on (we use organic sugar). Some sugar still remains after brewing, but overall the sugar in Rainbow Cloud kombucha is low compared to most juices and sodas. One thing worth mentioning, is that not all kombucha manufacturers are honest about their sugar content. We’ve tested some other brands and been (ahem) quite surprised by the results. You can pick up a Refractometer for under $20.00 and find out for yourself.

what is your INVOLVEMENT with food banks?

1 out of 8 people in the U.S. struggles with food insecurity. Rainbow Cloud works with food banks to make donations directly into (or near) communities where Rainbow Cloud is sold. This means your purchase supports a community close to you. We suggest googling “food insecurity” and learning more about the situation. :)

How should i store Kombucha and Kefir Water?

Keep it refrigerated and standing straight up, never store it on its side. We also recommend keeping an eye on the “best before” date printed on the bottom and consuming it before that time.
